Does God Like Me?
Most of us would probably immediately want to give an affirmative answer: “Of course He does.” But let’s not be so quick to answer. It is true that there is nothing we can do to make God love us more. He loved us enough to send His only Son to die on the cross for us. My question is not whether or not He loves me, but whether He enjoys being around me. Sometimes we tend to think that doing great things for God is what brings Him pleasure and satisfaction. And it definitely does. But often we mistakenly think that God is so hard to please. In reality though all He wants from us is that we would believe Him, need Him, and expect Him to be involved in our life. No one likes to be ignored or neglected, especially by friends and loved ones. And neither does God.
“Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to Him must believe that He is…” (Hebrews 11:6). The word “please” here means “to be well satisfied.” In other words our life does not give God any satisfaction unless it is mixed with faith. And I do not think that here faith is in God’s existence, but rather in the fact that He is there whenever we come to Him; He is there whenever we need Him. It is that faith that believes that whatever we are going through did not take God by surprise. It is that faith that does not look just for an answer from God but looks for Him. So God simply wants to be believed. What satisfies Him is when we take Him seriously and let Him be who He said He is in our daily life: our Savior, Lord, provider, healer, comforter, etc. So, you want to please God? Believe Him.
